Cityhop is absolutely thrilled to report that we won the Northern Region Sustainable Business Network Innovation & Design award at the award ceremony on Thursday 27 August. Cityhop was up against 10 other worthy new ‘green’ innovative design concepts.
Cityhop’s CEO, Victoria Carter, James Ure ( Operations Manager) and Tim Alpe ( Director of Cityhop and CEO of JUCY Rentals) received a beautiful trophy and framed certificate.
Thanking the Sustainable Buisiness Network for the awards, Victoria said how every business in the room was deserving of the award; that each one of us was doing something incredibly worthwhile by incorporating ‘green’values into our business practices and that by doing this we were making a huge difference to the country we live in.
Cityhop is not quite a year old so this is a real thrill for all of us who are so committed to encouraging people out of their cars.
Cityhop is New Zealand’s first self-service car share company with cars for rent by the hour, day or the week. cityhop has cars located all over Auckland’s CBD, and in Wellington and Christchurch.
Judge’s comments:
• cityhop has adapted an idea that succeeded overseas and made it work in New Zealand’s context and conditions
• There is a high probability that their initiative will be quickly recognised as convenient and cost-effective, becoming part of the solution to traffic congestion and other problems associated with private car use.
Added Victoria Carter, we began with 5 cars and today we have 22. We have over 230 members, over 1500 drivers. We have a way to go but we’ve made huge in-roads (pardon the pun) into changing people’s attitudes to cars! Car share research worldwide tells us that car share members drive less – 40 % less after they join car share. 50% of them often sell a car once they join car share.
Every car share vehicle takes 20 privately owned cars off the street – that is a significant congestion buster tool.
Congratulations to all our members and those corporates who are supporting Cityhop, you deserve this award too. You are helping make a significant difference to greenhouse gas emisisons, reducing your carbon footprint and reducing congestion on the our streets.
